DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – In her final game for the Devils, senior
Kim Overland (Andover, N.J.) scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 Freedom Conference victory over the Delaware Valley College Aggies on Saturday, November 1 at James Work Memorial Stadium.
The Devils (7-9-2, 3-4 Freedom) offense came into the game out shooting their opponents 31-14 in their previous two games. It was no different on Saturday afternoon when the Devils came out firing, placing 12 shots on goal compared to the Aggies one.
In the 8th minute of the contest, sophomore
Brittni Calleo (Bayville, N.J.) was the first to score after she sent a ball into the back of the net from 35 yards out to put the Devils up 1-0. Calleo ended her sophomore campaign with a team-high eight goals on the season.
The Aggies (6-9-2, 3-3-1) took no time to respond with a goal of their own. In the 9th minute,
Nikki Dunlap placed the game-tying goal into the back of the net off a through ball into the box from teammate
Elisha Taney. The two teams entered the half deadlocked at 1-1 in a tight conference battle.
However, in the 61st minute on a Devils corner, Calleo sent the ball into the box and
Kelly Roche (Haddon Twp., NJ..) got a piece of it placing it in front of the net. That's when Overland tipped in what turned out to be the game winner for the Devils and her second game-deciding goal this week.
FDU-Florham closed out its season winning two out of its last three games thanks to the late game heroics from Overland.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Annie George (Denville, NJ) did not record a save in the game, while the Aggies goalkeepers
Claudia Winters and
Kelly Quinn combined for 10 saves. The Devils outshot the Aggies 13 to two in the contest.
