Box Score ST.DAVIDS, Pa. --The FDU-Florham Devils are post-season bound, thanks to a 3-1 victory of Freedom Conference foe, Eastern University on Saturday afternoon.
All three Devils goals were netted by seniors during the game's first 45 minutes of play. With the win the Devils (10-10, 4-3 MAC) punched their ticket for the upcoming Middle Atlantic Conference tournament.
Senior striker
Samantha Messina (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) opened the scoring for FDU-Florham, firing in her ninth goal of the season 8:42 into action.
At the 21:44 mark of the first half, Messina and teammate
Jennifer DiGioia (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury/CCM) setup the Devils second goal on a cross to fellow senior
Michelle Hickey (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) to build a 2-0 advantage.
Five minutes later,
Claire Donohue (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Regional) finished her 11
th goal of the season off of a helper from Hickey.
The Eagles ended Devils goalkeeper
Annie George's (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) shutout when Elisa DiRenzo pinged a ball off the bottom of the crossbar in the game's final minutes.
George made two saves while facing 12 shots in the win. FDU-Florham outshot Eastern 17-12 on the afternoon and totaled 11 shots on goal.
Messina's assist was her team-leading fifth of the season.
