Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham Devils women's soccer team (5-7, 0-1 MAC) dropped their Freedom Conference opener 3-1 on Saturday against the King's College Monarchs (6-3-1, 1-0 MAC).
The Devils jumped on top 1-0, when
Michelle Hickey (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) put away a
Samantha Messina (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) assist at 37:02 into play.
The Monarchs countered with three unanswered goals, two of which occurred in the game's final four minutes. King's sophomore Ivy Nulton was responsible for the decisive goal when she netted an assist from teammate Amy Barge, putting the Monarchs ahead 2-1.
FDU lost the contest despite outshooting King's 26-9 on the day. This is the first time the Monarchs have defeated the Devils since 1997.
Hickey's goal was her fourth of the season, tying her for second on the team. Messina currently leads the Devils in assists with four on the year.
