Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham Devils women's soccer team lost a tightly contested match to the 12
th ranked Misericordia University Cougars 2-0 on Friday night at Robert T. Shields Field.
The Devils (9-9, 3-3 MAC) remain eligible for the Freedom Conference tournament and despite the loss, still control their own destiny. Meanwhile, Misericordia continued their impressive season and improved to 14-2-1 with the win and a perfect 6-0 in conference.
The game was knotted up at 0-0 until the 74
th minute, when Cougar junior forward Megan Mahoney knocked in a cross from teammate Emily Esposito to net the deciding goal.
The Devils best scoring opportunity came early in the second half, when
Claire Donohue (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Regional) fired a rocket off of the crossbar that would have put the home team on top 1-0.
The two teams were evenly matched for most of the contest, until the 54
th minute when
Brittni Calleo (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) was sent off with a red card, leaving the Devils shorthanded and unable to impede the Cougar attack.
Leading 1-0, the Cougars added an insurance goal when Kylen Smith drove a perfectly-placed shot into the upper right corner of the net to put the game away.

Annie George (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) held her own in a physical contest and totaled five saves in the loss.
