MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils earned a 5-1 victory over DeSales in Freedom Conference action on Monday afternoon to bring the 2011 regular season to an end. The win helped the Devils wrap-up the fourth seed in the upcoming Freedom Conference Tournament.
With the win, the Devils improved to 8-11-1 (4-2-1 Freedom) while the Bulldogs dropped to 3-14-1 (1-6 Freedom).
DeSales actually got on the board first, grabbing a 1-0 just 6:47 into the first half. FDU tied it at 1-1 at the 34:44 mark when sophomore forward
Claire Donohue converted a pass from sophomore forward
Samantha Messina. The Devils took a 2-1 lead only 1:04 later as Donohue scored again, this time off a feed from senior goalkeeper
Melanie Pierson. FDU made it 3-1 with 2:36 gone by in the second half as Donohue earned the hat trick with the pass again coming from Messina. It was Messina's turn to find the back of the net at the 74:13 mark before junior forward
Melanie Anzidei capped the scoring at the 89:11 mark.
Pierson picked up the win in net, making three saves.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, in the Semifinals of the Freedom Conference Tournament when fourth-seeded FDU travels to face top-seeded Misericordia beginning at 7 pm.
