MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils lost their season opener to Stevens, 3-2 (2OT), on Saturday afternoon in the first game of the FDU Classic.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 0-2.
FDU opened up the scoring just 2:46 into the game when senior forward
Lora Fink (Hamilton Square, NJ/Pennington Prep) booted a corner kick that Stevens knocked into their own goal. The score stayed that way throughout the remainder of the first half and for the first 12:00 of the second half before the Ducks tied it at 1-1. Stevens then went ahead, 2-1, just four minutes later but the Devils evened things up at the 77:23 mark when Fink scored off a feed from senior forward
Brittany Kanickij (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert). The two teams then played even for the rest of regulation and the first overtime before Kanickij got a great look at the goal early in the second overtime but just missed wide. Stevens then advanced the ball down the field and a crossing pass went off a Devil for an own goal, giving the Ducks the victory.
Junior goalkeeper
Melanie Pierson (Brookside, NJ/Mendham) played 106:55 in net and made seven saves.
In the second game of the FDU Classic, New Jersey City jumped out to an early lead and defeated Albright by a score of 3-0.
The Devils return to action on Sunday, September 5, 2010, on the second day of the FDU Classic against New Jersey City beginning at 3 pm. Stevens will take on Albright in the first game beginning at 1 pm.
