Devils Downed By Manhattanville, 2-1, In Freedom Finals

MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils were knocked off by Manhattanville, 2-1, in the Freedom Conference Tournament Finals on Saturday afternoon.  The Valiants will now move on to play in the NCAA Tournament.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 14-6-2 while the Valiants improved to 4-13-3.  FDU will now await a berth to the ECAC Metro Region Tournament.

Manhattanville got on the board first at the 18:14 mark when sophomore midfielder Morgan Rebollal (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) scored off a pass from junior midfielder Natalie Green (Vernon, CT/East Catholic).  The Valiants then grabbed a 2-0 lead with just 3:18 to before halftime as sophomore forward Brittany Smith (Stratford, CT/Bunnell) converted a feed from junior forward Amanda Suiso (Honolulu, HI/Kaiser).

FDU came alive to begin the second half as junior defender Michelle da Silva (Union, NJ/Union) headed in a corner kick pass from senior forward Lora Fink (Hamilton Square, NJ/Pennington Prep) with only 2:59 gone by in the second stanza to cut the deficit to 2-1.  As the half went on, FDU had three more solid chances to score but freshman forward Claire Donohue (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Regional) missed just high and two passes from Fink off corner kicks resulted in scrums right in front of the goal but FDU couldn't knock it in.  Then with just under 15:00 to go in the game, Fink booted a free kick from 35 yards out that Manhattanville senior goalkeeper Ali Bromson (Suffield, CT/Suffield) saved but it looked like she carried it into the net, however it was ruled as a save keeping the score at 2-1.  The Devils kept pressing to get the game-tying goal but Manhattanville held strong to get the win.

Junior goalkeeper Lauren Albrecht (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) suffered the loss, making three saves.  Bromson was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player after making two saves.
