DALLAS, PA - The College at Florham Devils notched a 2-1 win over Misericordia in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon but of more importance is that with the victory, FDU clinched a spot in the upcoming Freedom Conference Tournament and a home game in the first round as the Devils will be no worse than the second seed.
With the win, the Devils improved to 12-4-2 (5-0-1 Freedom) while the Cougars dropped to 10-5-2 (2-3-1 Freedom). FDU will play Eastern next Saturday afternoon, with the winner earning the number one seed in the Freedom Tournament.
The Devils got on the board first at the 9:00 mark when senior forward
Brittany Kanickij (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) found the back of the net off a Cougar turnover in their own zone. Misericordia came back to tie it at 1-1 with 11:21 left in the first half. FDU netted the game-winner when junior defender
Ally Janiga (Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) put it in from 50 yards out on a free kick just 12:18 into the second half. The Devils were actually dominated statistically as they trailed in both shots (21-9) and corner kicks (8-1), but led in the only place it mattered.
Junior goalkeeper
Lauren Albrecht (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) picked up the win, making six saves.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at home against cross-town rival Drew beginning at 7 pm.
