Entering his 28th season at the helm of the FDU golf program, the venerable Kindel has been at FDU for over 40 years.
In 2016, Kindel received the Middle Atlantic Conference's Lou Sorrentino Award, which is presented to the Middle Atlantic Conference athletics administrator who has had a sustained and influential role in conference and national affairs and embodies the NCAA Division III philosophy. In 2013, he also won the prestigious University Pillar Award, which honors those who have made extraordinary contributions to Fairleigh Dickinson and who have been with the University for more than 10 years.
Kindel guided the Devils to four consecutive Freedom Conference Tournament Championships from 2006-2009 and an additional one in 2013. The 2006 championship was the first conference title the program has won since 1983. Under his guidance, the Devils also went to the NCAA Tournament from 2007-2009 and in 2013. Kindel has also earned Freedom Conference Coach of the Year honors five times.
Over the past six years, Kindel has tutored three Freedom Conference Player of the Year winners in Sameer Khan, two-time Player of the Year Greg Stockley, David Suarez, Matt Molinari and Billy King.
Kindel was the head coach of the men's basketball team for 28 years before retiring after the 2004-05 season. He was named coach of the year five times throughout his tenure and is also in the top five in many statistical categories from his playing days at Seton Hall.
He also serves as the Interim Athletic Director in the department.
