DEVILS FALL TO ST. MARY’S (MD), 16-15, IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA TOURNAMENT

ST. MARY’S CITY, MD - Despite four goals from junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport), the College at Florham Devils dropped a 16-15 decision to St. Mary’s (MD) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.  The Seahawks will now advance to face Salisbury in the Regional Semifinals.

With the loss, the Devils end their season with a record of 16-3 while the Seahawks improved to 15-5.

St. Mary’s got off to a fast start, scoring the first two goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead with just 2:06 gone by in the first half.  The Devils stormed right back to tie the game at 2-2 with 18:34 remaining thanks to goals from Wayne and junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken).  The Seahawks scored to take a 3-2 lead but FDU scored the next three goals to grab a 5-3 lead with 11:58 to go in the half.  St. Mary’s tied it at 5-5 before Gambardello scored with 7:38 left to give FDU a 6-5 advantage.  St. Mary’s would once again tie it at 6-6 but junior midfielder Erin Reilly (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) scored back-to-back goals to give the Devils an 8-6 lead with 5:11 left.  The Seahawks would score once more before the half to go into intermission trailing FDU, 8-7.

The Devils came out strong to start the second half, as Wayne and senior attack Erika Sensbach (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) scored the first two goals to give FDU a 10-7 lead.  St. Mary’s would then score three of the next four goals to cut the FDU lead to 11-10 before Wayne score to put FDU up 12-10 with 16:39 left to play in the game.  The Seahawks responded by scoring five of the next six goals to grab a 15-13 lead with 6:07 remaining.  The Devils didn’t give up though, as freshman midfielder Lindsey Parent (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and sophomore attack Kristen Schuster (Centereach, NY/Centereach) scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at 15-15 with 4:01 left in regulation.  The Seahawks won the ensuing draw though and scored 0:16 seconds later to take a 16-15 advantage.  St. Mary’s then won the next draw and killed the clock down to 1:19 left in the game before the Devils forced a turnover to get the ball back.  Unfortunately for FDU, they would turn the ball back over immediately but St. Mary’s turned it over two more times however the Devils could not capitalize allowing St. Mary’s to move on to the next round.

Gambardello, Reilly, Parent and sophomore attack Linda Bohn (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Twp.) would all finish with two goals for FDU while junior goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made seven saves in net.  Junior midfielder Lauren Carrier (Crownsville, MD) led the Seahawks with five goals.

DEVILS DRAW ST. MARY’S (MD) IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA TOURNAMENT

MADISON, NJ – The College at Florham Devils will travel to play St. Mary’s (MD) in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at a time to be announced.

The winner of the game will then go on to play the top overall seed in the Tournament, Salisbury, on Saturday, May 10, 2008, beginning at 11:30 am.

DEVILS BEAT ELIZABETHTOWN, 15-14, TO WIN MAC CHAMPIONSHIP

MADISON, NJ - Senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) scored five goals, including the game-winner with 2:29 left, to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 15-14 win over Elizabethtown in the MAC Tournament Championship Game on Saturday afternoon.  For her efforts, Specht was named the Tournament MVP.

With the win, the Devils clinched their first ever NCAA Tournament berth and improved to 16-2 while the Blue Jays dropped to 11-5.  The NCAA pairings will be announced on Sunday, May 4, 2008.

FDU started the game strong, scoring four of the first five goals to take a 4-1 lead with 18:40 left in the first half.  Specht and sophomore attack Linda Bohn (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Twp.) each had two goals in the opening run.  Elizabethtown would respond immediately though, scoring the next three goals to tie the game at 4-4 with 14:41 to go.  The Devils then scored three of the next four to grab a 7-5 advantage with 7:29 remaining but the Blue Jays responded with three straight to take an 8-7 lead with 4:05 to play in the half.  Sophomore attack Kristen Schuster (Centereach, NY/Centereach) scored two straight goals to put the Devils back up, 9-8, with 2:07 remaining but the Blue Jays scored with 0:50 left to tie the game at 9-9 heading into the intermission.

Elizabethtown scored the first goal of the second half to take a 10-9 lead before FDU ripped off three straight goals to go ahead, 12-10, with 16:41 left in the game.  The Blue Jays cut it to 12-11 but the Devils then scored two in a row to grab a 14-11 advantage with 8:33 remaining.  Elizabethtown came right back though, as they did all day, to make it 14-13 with 4:16 to play.  Specht then converted a pass from freshman midfielder Lindsey Parent (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) to give the Devils a 15-14 lead but the Blue Jays had one last surge in them as they scored with 1:11 to go to cut it to 15-14.  The Blue Jays then won the draw control and were looking to tie the score but an offensive foul gave the ball back to FDU, and the Devils ran out the clock to clinch the NCAA Tournament bid.

Schuster finished the game with three goals while Bohn and junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) had two goals apiece.  Junior attack Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) led Elizabethtown with five goals and two assists.  Junior goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made 13 saves in net for FDU.

DEVILS HOLD OFF LYCOMING, 15-13, IN MAC SEMIFINALS

MADISON, NJ – The top-seeded College at Florham Devils used four goals apiece from senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) and junior midfielder Erin Reilly (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) to knock off fourth-seeded Lycoming, 15-13, in the MAC Tournament Semifinals.

With the win, the Devils improved to 15-2 while the Warriors dropped to 9-8.  The Devils will advance to the MAC Tournament finals on Saturday afternoon against second-seeded Elizabethtown, a 15-9 winner over third-seeded Messiah.

The Devils scored five of the first seven goals of the game to grab a 5-2 lead with 16:34 left in the first half.  Specht scored three goals for FDU.  With the score 6-3 in favor of FDU, Lycoming scored four of the last five goals of the half to tie the game up at 7-7 heading into the intermission.

FDU started strong in the second half, ripping off three straight goals to grab a 10-7 lead.  The teams then traded two goals apiece with the Devils holding a 12-9 lead with 15:25 left in the game.  The Warriors then scored three of the next four goals to cut it to 13-12 with 8:13 to go.  That’s when Reilly stepped up for FDU, scoring to put the Devils ahead by a score of 14-12 and assisting on a goal by junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) that gave the Devils a 15-13 lead with 1:02 remaining.  The Warriors had the ball with under a minute and a chance to cut the FDU lead to a goal but great defense by the Devils allowed them to secure the win.

Wayne finished with three goals while sophomore attack Linda Bohn (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Twp.) had two goals and an assist.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at home against Elizabethtown in the MAC Tournament Finals beginning at 1 pm.

SIX DEVILS EARN ALL-CONFERENCE RECOGNITION

ANNVILLE, PA - Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference while senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) and sophomore defender Jackie Gale (New Vernon, NJ/Madison) joined her on the First Team on Tuesday morning.

Junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) and freshman defender Stephanie Sanzari (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) were named Second Team All-MAC while Head Coach Adrienne Booth was named MAC Coach of the Year.

Wayne leads the team with 63 goals, 23 assists and 86 points.  In the conference she is tied for third in goals, fifth in assists, fourth in points and first in shots.  Nationally, she ranks eighth in draw controls, 13th in points, 21st in goals per game, 22nd in points per game, 38th in assists and 57th in assists per game.

Specht is first on the team with 28 caused turnovers, second with 46 goals and third with 55 points.  In the conference, she is tied for ninth in goals while ranking 64th nationally in caused turnovers.

Gale leads the team with 44 groundballs and is second with 26 caused turnovers.  She has also helped the Devils allow the second fewest goals in the conference.  Nationally, she is 83rd in caused turnovers.

Gambardello is tied for second on the team with 46 goals, tied for second with 41 groundballs, second with 59 points and third with 13 assists.  In the conference, she is tied for ninth in goals, tied for ninth in points and tied for sixth in shots.  Nationally, she places 112th in goals.

Sanzari has started every game her freshman year while collecting 25 ground balls and causing 18 turnovers.  She is also a member of a defense that has allowed the second fewest goals in conference.

WAYNE NAMED MAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ANNVILLE, PA – Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) has been named MAC Player of the Week after scoring nine goals in a 2-0 week for the Devils.

Wayne started the week on Tuesday when she scored two goals and added an assist in an 18-4 win at Arcadia.  Then on Saturday against Widener, she netted seven goals to go along with an assist in a 21-9 win that enabled FDU to finish the conference regular season undefeated.

This is the third time this season that Wayne has been named MAC Player of the Week.  On the season, she leads the team with 63 goals, 23 assists and 86 points.  In the conference she is tied for third in goals (63), fifth in assists (23), fourth in points (86) and first in shots (141).  Nationally, she ranks eighth in draw controls, 13th in points, 21st in goals per game, 22nd in points per game, 38th in assists and 57th in assists per game.

DEVILS FINISH CONFERENCE REGULAR SEASON UNDEFEATED WITH 21-9 WIN OVER WIDENER

MADISON, NJ – Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) had seven goals while junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) added three goals and five assists to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 21-9 win over Widener in MAC action on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 14-2 (8-0 MAC) while the Pride dropped to 6-10 (3-5 MAC).

 The Devils scored six of the first seven goals of the game to grab a 6-1 lead with 17:13 left in the first half.  Wayne scored three of the six FDU goals.  After Widener cut it to 6-2, the Devils ripped off four straight goals to increase their lead to 10-2 with 13:34 left in the half.  It was back-and-forth action for the rest of half with Widener scoring four goals and FDU scoring three as the Devils took a 13-6 lead into halftime.

Each team scored three times in the first 9:06 of the second half with the Devils holding a 16-9 lead.  That’s when the FDU put the game away for good, ripping off five straight goals to end the game with a 21-9 win.  Gambardello scored two goals in the spurt.

Senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) scored three goals while junior goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made seven saves in net to pick up the win.

The Devils return to action on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, when top-seeded FDU hosts fourth-seeded Lycoming in the Semifinals of the MAC Tournament beginning at 4 pm.

DEVILS CLINCH HOME-FIELD WITH 18-4 WIN OVER ARCADIA

GLENSIDE, PA – The College at Florham Devils got goals from 11 different players on their way to an 18-4 win over Arcadia in MAC action on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 13-2 (7-0 MAC) while the Knights dropped to 4-10 (0-7 MAC).  The win also ensures that the Devils will have home-field advantage through the upcoming MAC Tournament.

FDU started the game out absolutely on fire, scoring the first 13 goals of the game en route to a 13-0 halftime lead.  Senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) had three goals while junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) and junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) each had two goals.

Arcadia scored the first two goals of the second half to cut the FDU lead to 13-2 but the Devils responded by scoring five of the next six goals to make sure the outcome was no longer in doubt.

Specht finished with three goals and two assists while Gambardello also posted three goals.  Junior goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) started and made six saves in the win.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 26, 2008, at home against Widener beginning at 1 pm.

WAYNE LEADS DEVILS TO 20-12 WIN OVER LYCOMING

MADISON, NJ – Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) had seven goals and two assists to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 20-12 win over Lycoming in MAC action on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 12-2 (6-0 MAC) while the Warriors dropped to 8-7 (4-3 MAC).

The first half was filled with a lot of back-and-forth action with no team holding more than a one goal lead.  The game was tied 5-5 heading into halftime with Wayne and sophomore attack Kristen Schuster (Centereach, NY/Centereach) each scoring two goals for the Devils.

The action picked up in the second half as the Devils scored eight of the first 10 goals to grab a 13-7 lead with 18:18 left in the game.  Wayne had three of the eight goals for the Devils.  After Lycoming made it 13-8, FDU scored five of the next six goals to take an 18-9 advantage with 7:20 to go.  The Warriors made on final surge, scoring three goals in a row to cut it to 18-12 but it was too little too late as FDU added two insurance goals with under a minute left to play to seal the win.

Schuster finished with three goal and an assist while junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) added three goals and two assists.  Junior goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made 10 saves in net.

WAYNE, GAMBARDELLO POWER DEVILS TO 20-10 WIN OVER KING’S

WILKES-BARRE, PA – Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) scored six goals while junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) netted five to power visiting FDU-Florham to a 20-10 victory over King's College in a Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse match Wednesday at Betzler Fields.

With the win, FDU improved to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in the MAC. King's, meanwhile, fell to 2-10 and 1-4 in league games.

Melissa Gates led King's with four goals while Reanna Lachner added three. Grace King tallied two goals and one assist for the Lady Monarchs while Candace Russ scored once. Michelle O'Brien chipped in with one assist.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at home against Lycoming beginning at 3 pm.

NINE GAME WINNING STREAK SNAPPED AS DEVILS FALL TO ROWAN, 12-11

GLASSBORO, NJ – The College at Florham Devils saw their nine game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 12-11 loss to Rowan in non-conference action.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 10-2.

Senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) and junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) combined to score FDU’s first five goals, Specht scored three and Wayne had two, with Specht giving the Devils a 5-3 lead with 6:26 left in the first half.  The Profs scored two of the last three goals of the half to cut the FDU lead to 6-5 heading into intermission.

Sophomore attack Kristen Schuster (Centereach, NY/Centereach) scored just 1:20 into the second half to put FDU up, 7-5, but Rowan scored three of the next four goals to tie the game at 8-8 with 14:40 to go.  The Devils responded by scoring three of the next four, with Wayne scoring two, to grab an 11-9 lead with 4:08 left to play.  Unfortunately for the Devils, Rowan was not finished yet as they cut it to 11-10 with 3:30 remaining and tied it at 11-11 with 1:15 to go.  Then with 0:16 remaining, the Profs scored the game-winner to complete the comeback and escape with the victory.

Wayne finished with four goals and an assist while Specht added three goals.  Junior goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made six saves in net.

DEVILS DOUBLE UP WILKES, 24-12

MADISON, NJ – The College at Florham Devils got at least two goals from eight different players as they upped their winning streak to nine a row by knocking off Wilkes, 24-12, in MAC action on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 10-1 (4-0 MAC) while the Colonels dropped to 4-5 (0-3 MAC).

FDU started the game on fire, taking a 5-0 lead with just 2:45 gone by in the first half.  Sophomore attack Kristen Schuster (Centereach, NY/Centereach) had three of the five goals.  Wilkes cut it to 5-1 before the Devils scored eight of the next nine goals to grab a 13-2 lead with 6:01 left in the half.  Senior attack Erika Sensbach (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) scored three goals in the run.  Wilkes didn’t quit though, as they scored the final five goals of the half to head into the intermission trailing by a score of 13-6.

The Colonels picked up where they left off at the start of the second half by scoring the first two goals to creep to within 13-8.  The Devils then turned it on by scoring the next five goals to pull ahead, 18-8.  Again Wilkes wouldn’t go away though, as they responded by ripping off a 4-0 run to cut it to 18-12 with 13:32 left to play.  That was as close as they would get however, as the Devils scored the final six goals to win by a 24-12 margin.

Schuster finished the game with four goals and an assist while senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) notched four goals.  Sensbach had three goals and an assist, sophomore attack Linda Bohn (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Twp.) had two goals and three assists, and junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) finished with three goals and an assist.

DEVILS WIN EIGHTH IN A ROW, 16-9, OVER MESSIAH

MADISON, NJ – The College at Florham Devils knocked off Messiah, 16-9, to win their eighth game in a row in MAC action on Saturday afternoon.  The Devils had seven players score two goals or more in the game.

With the win, the Devils improved to 9-1 (3-0 MAC) while the Falcons dropped to 4-4 (1-1 MAC).

FDU jumped out to a 3-1 lead with 10:48 gone by in the first half and the Devils then scored six out of the next eight goals to grab a 9-3 lead with 4:06 left in the half.  Messiah cut it to 9-5 with 3:36 to go but the Devils scored the final two goals of the half to take an 11-5 lead into the intermission.

After the Devils took a 13-6 advantage with 17:13 left in the game, the Falcons cut it to 13-8 just a minute later.  That was as close as Messiah would get though, as FDU scored three out of the final four goals to earn the 16-9 win.

DEVILS EARN SEVENTH STRAIGHT WITH WIN OVER MANHATTANVILLE, 17-13

PURCHASE, NY – The College at Florham Devils jumped out to a 13-5 halftime advantage and never looked back as they picked up their seventh consecutive win by knocking off Manhattanville, 17-13, in MAC action on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 8-1 (2-0 MAC) while the Valiants dropped to 4-5 (0-2 MAC).

The Devils scored nine of the first eleven goals of the game to jump out to a 9-2 lead with 12:08 left in the first half.  Junior midfielders Erin Reilly (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) and sophomore attack Linda Bohn (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Twp.) each scored two goals during the opening run.  FDU then scored four more goals to take a 13-5 lead into intermission.

Manhattanville didn’t give up however, as they started the second half by scoring four of the first five goals to cut the Devil lead to 14-9 with 22:58 left to play.  FDU responded immediately though, scoring three of the next four to grab a 17-10 lead with 4:45 remaining.  The Valiants scored three late goals but it wasn’t enough as the Devils got the win.

Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) finished with four goals and an assist while Reilly and Gambardello had three and two goals apiece, respectively.  Bohn and senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) each had two goals and two assists.

WAYNE NAMED MASCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE WEEK

ANNVILLE, PA - Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) was named the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday afternoon for the second straight week after helping the Devils post a 3-0 record last week.

Wayne started off on Tuesday by notching four goals and four assists in a 17-9 win over Montclair State.  Then on Thursday, she finished with six goals and two assists in a 21-9 win over Mt. St. Vincent.  She finished the week on Saturday by tallying two goals and two assists in FDU’s 10-7 MASCAC opening win over Elizabethtown.

On the season, Wayne is the team leader in goals (28), assists (13) and points (41) for the 7-1 Devils.  After a season-opening loss, the Devils have ripped off seven straight wins.

BALANCED ATTACK LEADS DEVILS TO WIN IN MASCAC OPENER OVER ELIZABETHTOWN, 10-7

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – Four players scored two goals apiece to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 10-7 win over Elizabethtown in the MASCAC opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 7-1 (1-0 MASCAC) while the Blue Jays dropped to 3-3 (0-1 MASCAC).

Elizabethtown started hot, as they scored the first five goals of the game on their way to a 6-2 halftime advantage.

After the Blue Jays made it 7-2 with 24:11 left in the game, the Devils completely took over as they scored eight straight goals to end the game.  Junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) tied the game at 7-7 with 9:32 remaining and sophomore attack Linda Bohn (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Twp.) scored the game-winner with 8:27 to go.

Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) had two goals and two assists while Bohn had two goals and an assist.  Gambardello and senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) each had two goals apiece.  Junior goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made six saves in net.

WAYNE POWERS DEVILS TO 21-9 WIN OVER MT. ST. VINCENT

MADISON, NJ – Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) finished with six goals and two assists to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 21-9 win over Mt. St. Vincent in non-conference action on Thursday evening.

With the win, the Devils improved to 6-1.

The Dolphins started the game on fire, taking a 5-1 lead with 12:57 gone by in the first half.  FDU exploded from that point on, scoring the next nine goals to take a 10-5 halftime lead.  Wayne had three goals in the run for the Devils.

FDU picked up where they left off to start the second half, scoring five out of the first six goals to take a 15-6 lead with 22:30 left in the game.  The Dolphins scored three of the next four goals to cut it to 16-9 but the Devils rang up the final five tallies to take home the win.

Junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) had four goals while senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) had three goals and two assists.

WAYNE, GAMBARDELLO ACHIEVE MILESTONES IN 17-9 WIN OVER MONTCLAIR STATE

MONTCLAIR, NJ – Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) had four goals and four assists while junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) had three goals and an assist as the College at Florham Devils knocked off Montclair State, 17-9, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.  In addition to being FDU’s career goals scored leader, Wayne is now also the career lead in points with 181, passing the mark of 172 set by Danielle Okolski (1998-2001).  Gambardello set a milestone herself, as she scored her 100th career goal.

With the win, the Devils improved to 5-1.

FDU jumped out to a 5-0 lead with 17:55 left in the first half thanks to two goals by Gambardello and two goals by senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson).  Montclair cut it to 5-2 before the Devils scored the next four goals to grab a 9-2 lead with 7:54 to go.  The Red Hawks scored the last three goals of the half to close the gap to 9-5 heading into intermission.

Montclair score the opening goal of the second half to make it 9-6 but the Devils scored the next four goals to take a 13-6 advantage with 19:14 left in the game.  The Red Hawks cut it to 13-8 with 17:34 remaining but FDU scored four out of the last five goals of the game to earn the 17-9 victory.

Specht finished with a game-high five goals while sophomore attack Kristen Schuster (Centereach, NY/Centereach) added three goals.  Junior goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made eight saves in goal to pick up the win.

WAYNE NAMED MASCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ANNVILLE, PA - Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) was named the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after scoring nine goals in FDU’s Florida Spring Break trip.

Wayne started the week on Tuesday by notching four goals in a 13-8 win over Gordon.  On Wednesday, Wayne tallied five goals and added two assists in a 21-10 victory over Allegheny.

On the season, Wayne has 16 goals and five assists which is good for 21 points.  She is currently FDU’s career goals scored leader (143) and career points leader (173).

WAYNE, GAMBARDELLO LIFT DEVILS PAST ALLEGHENRY, 21-10

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) finished with five goals and two assists while junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) added five goals and an assist to lead the College at Florham Devils past Allegheny, 21-10, on Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Devils improved to 4-1.

The Devils scored the first nine goals of the game on their way to a 13-2 halftime advantage.  Wayne and Gambardello each had three goals in the first half of play.

Each team scored eight goals in the second stanza but Allegheny never posed a real threat to the FDU victory.

Senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) had four goals while sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Laning (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) picked up her first win of the season by making six saves.

DEVILS KNOCK OFF GORDON, 13-8

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) scored four goals to lead the College at Florham Devils over Gordon, 13-8, on Tuesday afternoon in the first game of their Florida Spring Break trip.

With the win, the Devils improved to 3-1.

FDU was down 5-3 going into halftime but Wayne scored three goals and sophomore attack Kristen Schuster (Centereach, NY/Centereach) netted two goals in the second stanza to help the Devils outscore Gordon 10-3 on their way to the 13-8 victory.

Senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) finished with three goals while junior goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made four saves in net.

WAYNE BECOMES FDU CAREER GOALS SCORED LEADER AS DEVILS BEAT KEAN, 23-8

UNION, NJ – Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) scored three goals, including the 134th of her career to become the FDU All-Time leader in career goals scored, to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 23-8 win over Kean in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.  Wayne broke the previous mark of 133 held by Abby Hildebrand (2002-2005).

With the win, the Devils improved to 2-1.

FDU scored the first three goals and 12 of the first 13 goals to grab a 12-1 lead with 12:20 left in the first half.  Junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) scored four goals in the opening onslaught. The Devils would score three more goals to take a 15-6 halftime lead.

After Kean scored two of the first three goals to cut the deficit to 16-8 to open the second half, the Devils ripped off seven straight goals to seal the victory.  Senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) had three goals in the second stanza.

Gambardello finished the day with five goals and an assist while Specht adde four tallies.  Junior midfielder Erin Reilly (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had four goals and an assist, sophomore attack Kristen Schuster (Centereach, NY/Centereach) had three goals and two assists, and freshman midfielder Lindsey Parent (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had two goals and three assists.

Junior goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) started and picked up the win by making two saves in net.

DEVILS FALL TO #4 TCNJ, 20-4

MADISON, NJ – Senior midfielder Toni-Anne Cavallo (Cedar Grove, NJ/West Essex) scored five goals to lead fourth-ranked TCNJ to a 20-4 victory over the College at Florham Devils in non-conference action on Monday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 1-1.

The Lions opened the game by scoring the first ten goals as they took a 10-0 lead with 19:29 gone by in the first half.  Junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) and senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) score back-to-back goals for the Devils to cut the deficit to 10-2 but TCNJ added a goal before halftime to take an 11-2 lead into the break.

FDU notched the first two goals of the second half, one by Specht and one by junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken), to cut the TCNJ lead to 11-4.  The Lions responded immediately though, scoring the last nine goals of the game to earn the win.

SCHUSTER, GAMBARDELLO LEAD DEVILS TO 19-3 VICTORY OVER NEUMANN IN SEASON OPENER

MADISON, NJ – Sophomore attack Kristen Schuster (Centereach, NY/Centereach) had four goals and two assists while junior midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) also had four goals to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 19-3 win over Neumann on Saturday afternoon in their season opener.

With the win, the Devils improved to 1-0.

FDU jumped out to a commanding 7-0 lead in the first 10:00 and never looked back on their way to a 14-3 halftime lead.  In the game, junior attack Amanda Wayne (Bellport, NY/Bellport) had three goals and an assist, senior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) had two goals and two assists and freshman midfielder Lindsey Parent (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had 1 goal and three assists.

Junior goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made three saves while playing only the first half.

DEVILS PICKED THIRD IN PRESEASON CONFERENCE POLL

ANNVILLE, PA – The College at Florham Devils were picked to finish third in the preseason Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Conference Coaches poll.  Here’s how the voting broke down:

1.  Lycoming 67 pts. (5), 2.  Elizabethtown 65 pts. (3), 3.  FDU-Florham 62 pts., 4.  Messiah 56 pts. (1), 5.  King’s 43 pts., 6.  Widener 39 pts., 7.  Manhattanville 28 pts.,  8.  Wilkes 25 pts., 9.  Arcadia 20 pts.

THREE DEVILS EARN IWLCA ACADEMIC HONORS

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Senior defender Allison Bradley (Havertown, PA/Haverford), senior attack Caroline Garguilo (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) and junior attack Erika Sensbach (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) were named to the IWLCA All-Academic team on Tuesday afternoon.

Bradley had a 3.565 GPA in Industrial Psychology, Garguilo had a 3.8 GPA in Spanish Education and Sensbach had a 3.53 GPA in clinical counseling.

WAYNE, SPECHT NAMED TO IWLCA TEAM

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Sophomore attack Amanda Wayne (Bell Port, NY/Bellport) was named First Team All-Boardwalk Region and junior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) was named Honorable Mention All-Boardwalk Region by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association on Thursday afternoon.

Wayne leads the team in goals (60) and points (66) while being tied for third in goals and sixth in points per game in the Middle Atlantic Conference.  She has also been named ECAC South Region Player of the Week once this season.

Specht is second on the team in both goals (42) and points (48), her 42 goals ranks her 10th in the conference.

DEVILS KNOCKED OFF BY DICKINSON, 21-10

CARLISLE, PA – Despite five goals and an assist from sophomore attack Amanda Wayne (Bell Port, NY/Bellport), the College at Florham Devils were defeated by Dickinson by a score of 21-10 on Wednesday afternoon in the Quarterfinals of the ECAC South Region Tournament.

With the loss, the Devils end the season with a record of 10-9.

Dickinson came out to start the game by scoring two goals in the first 2:03.  FDU made it 2-1 just 0:36 later on a goal by freshman attack Linda Bohn (Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon), and then FDU tied it at the 20:40 mark on a goal by Wayne.  The Red Devils responded by scoring six straight goals and seven of the next eight to take a 9-3 halftime lead.

Dickinson picked up where they left off at the beginning of the second half by scoring the first four goals to take a 13-3 lead with 22:35 left to play in the game.  FDU didn’t give up though as they scored the next three goals, two by senior attack Caroline Garguilo (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) and one by Wayne, to make it 13-6 with 19:24 remaining.  Any thoughts of a comeback were dashed however, as the Red Devils scored seven of the next eight goals to grab a 20-7 lead with 11:01 left to play to seal the win.

Junior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) had a goal and an assist for FDU while sophomore goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made 14 saves in net.

DEVILS FALL TO DREW, 15-12, IN MAC FINALS

MADISON, NJ – Despite a second half rally that came up just short, the College at Florham Devils fell to Drew by a score of 15-12 in the MAC Title Game.  The Devils fell behind 11-3 at the half but cut the deficit to three, 15-12, with 3:25 left to play in the game however they could not get any closer as Drew will advance to the NCAA Tournament.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 10-8 on the season and will await a berth into the ECAC Tournament.

After Drew had jumped out to a 3-1 lead, sophomore attack Amanda Wayne (Bell Port, NY/Bellport) scored her second goal of the game to make the score 3-2 with 23:32 left in the first half.  From that point on, Drew scored six straight goals and eight of the next nine to take an 11-3 lead into halftime.

FDU opened the second half strong by scoring the first two goals to make the score 11-5, but Drew scored the next two goals to up their lead to 13-5 with 22:36 left in the game.  The Devils scored four of the next five goals to close the gap to 14-9 with 8:29 left.  Drew made it 15-9 a minute later and then the Devils scored three in a row (two by Wayne) to make it a 15-12 game with 3:25 remaining.  FDU had some looks at the end but could not convert as Drew escaped with the win.

DEVILS UPSET ELIZABETHTOWN, 11-10 IN OVERTIME

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – Sophomore midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) scored three goals, including the game-winner with 2:27 left in overtime, and added an assist as the fourth-seeded College at Florham Devils upset number one seed Elizabethtown by a final of 11-10 (OT) in the MAC Semifinals on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 10-7 and will play in the MAC Finals on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Jays jumped out to a 4-1 lead with 20:58 left in the first half, but the Devils came back to cut the deficit to 4-3 with 6:20 remaining.  After, the two teams traded goals, Elizabethtown scored with 0:31 left to take a 6-4 lead into halftime.

FDU came out hot in the second half, scoring the first three goals to grab a 7-6 lead with 21:37 left in the game.  The two teams traded goals back-and-forth for the next 20:00 before sophomore midfielder Erin Reilly (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) scored on a free position shot to give FDU a 10-9 lead with 1:09 remaining.  Elizabethtown would not surrender though, scoring on their own free position shot with 0:43 left to tie the game at 10-10 and send it into overtime.  It was then, with 2:27 left, that Gambardello became the hero and sent the Devils into the MAC Finals.

Junior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) fired in the three goals, sophomore attack Amanda Wayne (Bell Port, NY/Bellport) scored two goals and freshman Kristen Schuster (Centereach, NY/Centereach) added two goals and an assist off the bench.  Reilly finished with a goal and an assist.  Sophomore goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made seven saves in net to pick up the win.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, May 5, 2007, when they travel to take on the winner of the Drew/Lycoming game at a time to be announced.

THREE DEVILS HONORED BY FREEDOM CONFERENCE

ANNVILLE, PA - Sophomore attack Amanda Wayne (Bell Port, NY/Bellport) and junior midfielder Lindsey Specht (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) have been named First Team All-Freedom Conference while senior defender Allison Bradley (Havertown, PA/Haverford) was named Second Team All-Freedom on Thursday morning.

REILLY LEADS DEVILS TO 19-12 WIN OVER MESSIAH

MADISON, NJ – Sophomore midfielder Erin Reilly (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) scored six goals and added an assist to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 19-12 win over Messiah in the First Round of the MAC Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 9-7 and will advance to the Semifinals of the MAC Tournament against number one-seeded Elizabethtown.

Messiah came out strong to start the game, scoring four of the first give goals to take a 4-1 lead with 6:21 gone by in the first half.  FDU scored the next four goals (by four different players) to take a 5-4 lead with just over 1:30 to play in the half.  It looked like the Devils would keep that lead going into halftime but Messiah scored with 0:30 left to tie the game at 5-5 going into the break.

FDU scored three goals, two by Reilly, right off the bat in the second half to take an 8-5 lead just four minutes in.  Messiah came right back however, scoring the next three goals to tie the game at 8-8.  FDU then responded with three more goals to make it 11-8 with 16:09 left to play.  After trading three goals apiece, Messiah scored to cut the deficit to 14-12 with 4:10 left in the game.  That’s when FDU really turned it up a notch and scored the last five goals to seal the game and move on to the next round.

Sophomore midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) scored four goals while junior attack Erika Sensbach (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) added a goal and three assists.  Sophomore goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made 12 saves in net to pick up the win.

The Devils return to action on Thursday, May 4, 2007, at Elizabethtown in the Semifinals of the MAC Tournament at a time to be announced.

ELIZABETHTOWN SCORES LATE GOAL TO NIP DEVILS, 12-11

MADISON, NJ – Elizabethtown scored with 1:27 left to play in the game to break an 11-11 tie and knock off the College at Florham Devils, 12-11, on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 8-7 (6-4 MAC).  The Devils will be the number four seed in the upcoming conference playoffs.

Elizabethtown scored four of the first five goals of the game to take a 4-1 lead with just under eight minutes left in the first half, but the Devils responded and tied the game at 4-4 going into the intermission.

The Blue Jays came out hot to start the second half, scoring six of the first seven goals to take a 10-5 lead with 15:15 left to play.  The Devils responded once again though, scoring six out of the next seven goals to tie the game at 11-11 with four minutes left in the game.  Elizabethtown scored with 1:27 remaining and held off the Devils to win the game.

Sophomore midfielder Laura Gambardello (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) and sophomore attack Amanda Wayne (Bell Port, NY/Bellport) each had three goals to pace FDU.  Sophomore goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) made 13 saves in net.

The Devils return to action on Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at home against Messiah in the first round of the Middle Atlantic Conference Tournament beginning at 4 pm.

DUNN NAMED ECAC SOUTH REGION DEFENDER OF THE WEEK

CENTERVILLE, MA – Sophomore goalkeeper Christine Dunn (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) has been named ECAC South Region Defender of the Week to go along with being named MAC Goalie/Defender of the Week.

On Wednesday at Wilkes, she allowed three goals in playing only the first half of a 23-5 win.  On Saturday Dunn came up huge for the Devils, allowing only six goals and making nine saves in a 12-6 win at Messiah.  With the win, the Devils were able to jump Messiah in the conference standings and FDU is now on track to host a first round playoff game.

On the season, Dunn has 86 saves and an 8.50 goals against average.

DEVILS BEAT MORAVAIN, 17-5, CLINCH CONFERENCE PLAYOFF BERTH FOR FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY

MADISON, NJ – The College at Florham Devils had six players score two goals or more as they knocked off Moravian, 17-5, on Monday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils have won eight of their last nine and are 8-6 (6-3 MAC).  They have also clinched a spot in the upcoming conference tournament for the first time in school history.
