DEVILS TO RAISE BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

MADISON, NJ – The College at Florham Devils will host the first annual “Think Pink” day, where the Devils women’s basketball team will help to raise money and awareness about breast cancer by hosting a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association “Pink Zone” event on Saturday, February 21, 2009, at the Ferguson Rec Center.

The WBCA Pink Zone™ initiative, formerly known as “Think Pink”, is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.  Over 120 schools participated in the event in its first season of 2007, but last season saw more than 1,200 teams and organizations reach over 830,000 fans and raise over $930,000 for breast cancer awareness and research.

This season, more than 1,250 schools, conference and sponsors have already signed up to participate on the WBCA website, with hundreds more expected to join in the coming weeks. The list includes institutions at every level of NCAA competition, as well as NAIA schools, junior and community colleges, high school and AAU teams.

FDU will host a Pink Zone event during the team’s February 21 game at 1 p.m. against Manhattanville.  Spectators will be asked to make a contribution to the WBCA’s designated charity, the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, to aid in the fight against breast cancer.  The fund is named after the late head coach of the North Carolina State University women’s basketball team, who passed away on January 24 following a 23-year battle with breast cancer.  For the event, the Devils women’s team will don pink t-shirts during warmups.
