ZALESKY, BRUIN, HARNETT WIN AT MASCAC INDIVIDUALS

WILKES-BARRE, PA – Senior John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) teamed with sophomore Alex Bruin (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy) to win second doubles while freshman Wes Harnett (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris) took home sixth singles at the MASCAC Individual Tournament.

Zalesky and Bruin earned the top seed in the second doubles bracket and cruised throughout, never really being challenged.  Harnett was the third seed and gutted out a three-set victory over the top-seed from Messiah in the semifinals before taking a home a straight sets win in the final.

THREE DEVILS HONORED BY FREEDOM CONFERENCE

ANNVILLE, PA – Senior Jason Thalmann (Delmar, NY/Albany Academy) was named First Team All-Freedom Conference while junior Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) and sophomore Alex Bruin (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy) were named Second Team All-Freedom on Wednesday morning.

On the season, Thalmann has compiled a 6-6 record playing at second singles and a 1-0 record at first singles.  In doubles, Thalmann has earned an 11-3 record playing at first doubles.  Geiger put up a 3-9 record at first singles and a 1-0 record at second singles while posting a 12-4 record at first doubles.  Bruin is 6-2 at third singles and 0-1 at second singles while notching a perfect 9-0 record at second double and an 0-1 record at first doubles.

DEVILS TOPPED BY WILKES, 5-3, IN FREEDOM FINALS

WILKES-BARRE, PA – The top-seeded College at Florham Devils were upset by second-seeded Wilkes, 5-3, in the Freedom Conference Tournament Finals on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 11-6.

FDU started off with a 2-1 lead after doubles thanks to a first doubles win by junior Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) and senior Jason Thalmann (Delmar, NY/Albany Academy) and a second doubles win by senior John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) and sophomore Alex Bruin (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy).  Things changed in singles though, as freshman Wes Harnett (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris) was the only Devil to pick up a win when he took sixth singles.  It was an extremely close match all day as four of the six singles went to three sets.

The Devils return to action on Saturday and Sunday, April 26 & 27, 2008, for the MAC Individual Tournament at Wilkes and King’s.

DEVILS BLANK KING’S IN FREEDOM SEMIFINALS, 5-0

WILKES-BARRE, PA – The top-seeded College at Florham Devils knocked off fourth-seeded King’s, 5-0, in the Freedom Conference Tournament Semifinals on Saturday afternoon.  The Devils will now move on to play second-seeded Wilkes in the finals.

With the win, the Devils improved to 11-5.

Seniors Jason Thalmann (Delmar, NY/Albany Academy) and John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) led the way for FDU.  Thalmann won at second singles and combined with junior Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) to win at first doubles.  Zalesky took fifth singles and teamed with sophomore Alex Bruin (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy) to win second doubles.  Freshmen Joe Li (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) and Wes Harnett (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris) earned the final point by pairing to win at third doubles.

The Devils return to action on Sunday, April 20, 2008, against Wilkes at Wilkes beginning at 12:30 pm.

DEVILS GET PAST RUTGERS-NEWARK, 6-3

NEWARK, NJ – The College at Florham Devils defeated Rutgers-Newark, 6-3, in non-conference action on Thursday evening.

With the win, the Devils improved to 10-5.

Senior John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) led FDU by winning at first singles and teaming with freshman Joe Li (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) to win at first doubles.  Li also won at second singles.  Freshman Ian Scott (Franklin, NJ/Walkill Valley) picked up a win at sixth singles and paired with freshman Kevin Ly (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) to win at third doubles.  Freshmen John Gaw (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) and Andrew Scamporino (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) teamed up to win at second doubles.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 19, 2008, when they take on King’s in the Freedom Conference Tournament Semifinals at Wilkes beginning at 12:30 pm.

MAHWAH, NJ – The College at Florham Devils knocked off Ramapo, 7-2, in non-conference action on Monday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 9-5.

MADISON, NJ – The College at Florham Devils knocked off DeSales, 9-0, in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon to finish conference play with a record of 5-0.

With the win, the Devils improved to 8-5 (5-0 Freedom) while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-8 (0-5 Freedom).

SIX MATCH WINNING STREAK SNAPPED AS DEVILS FALL TO STEVENS, 9-0

HOBOKEN, NJ – The College at Florham Devils saw their six match winning streak snapped by Stevens, 9-0, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 7-5.

Junior Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) came closest to picking up a win for FDU, losing at first singles by a score of 6-2, 7-5.

MADISON, NJ – The College at Florham Devils knocked off Staten Island, 7-2, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon to win their sixth straight match.

With the win, the Devils improved to 7-4.

DEVILS CLINCH TOP SEED IN FREEDOM TOURNAMENT BY BEATING MANHATTANVILLE, 7-2

MADISON, NJ – The College at Florham Devils knocked off Manhattanville, 7-2, in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.  The win ensures that the Devils will be the top seed in the upcoming Freedom Conference Tournament.

With the win, the Devils improved to 6-4 (4-0 Freedom) while the Valiants dropped to 7-3 (3-1 Freedom).

WILKES-BARRE, PA – The College at Florham Devils won their fourth straight match, 6-3, over King’s in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 5-4 (3-0 Freedom) while the Monarchs dropped to 4-6 (0-3 Freedom).

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 1-1.

Junior Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) lost in three sets at first singles by a score of 2-6, 6-4, 10-2.

THALMANN WINS THIRD SINGLES AT INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT

WILKES-BARRE, PA – Junior Jason Thalmann (Delmar, NY/Albany Academy) won the third singles bracket at this weekend’s MASCAC Individual Tennis Tournament.  Thalmann won the final 6-0, 4-6, 10-4.

Freshman Alex Bruin (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy) advanced all the way to the finals of the second singles bracket before getting knocked off.  Bruin and junior John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) got to the semifinals of the second doubles bracket while Zalesky made it to the semifinals of the fifth singles bracket.

DEVILS DOWNED BY RAMAPO, 5-4, IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

MAHWAH, NJ – The College at Florham Devils were defeated, 5-4, by Ramapo on Thursday afternoon in the regular season finale.  The Devils ended the season with a 7-9 record.

Freshman Alex Bruin (Albuquerque, NM/Albany Academy) led the way by winning at second singles and teaming with junior John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) to win at second doubles.  Zalesky also won at third singles.  Sophomore Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) combined with junior Sid Dunn (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) to win at second doubles.

The Devils return to action starting Saturday, April 28, 2007, when they travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA to compete in the MAC Individual Tournament.

Junior Jason Thalmann (Albany, NY/Delmar Academy) led the way for FDU, winning at second singles and combining with sophomore Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) to win first doubles.  Juniors Yianni Ioannides (Limassol, Cyprus/Lyceum of St. John) and John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) each won huge third set matches at third and fourth singles, respectively.  The two juniors also teamed up to win second doubles.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 21, 2007, when they take on second seeded King’s in the Freedom Conference semifinals at Drew beginning at 11 am.

Junior Yianni Ioannides (Limassol, Cyprus/Lyceum of St. John) won at both third singles and at first doubles with sophomore Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston).  Freshman Alex Bruin (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy) combined with junior John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) to win at second doubles, while also winning second singles.  Zalesky went on to win fourth singles.  Junior Chris Von Halle (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) won at fifth singles and teamed with senior Pierre Schmitt (Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge) to win third doubles.

THALMANN NAMED FREEDOM CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ANNVILLE, PA – Junior Jason Thalmann (Delmar, NY/Albany Academy) was named Freedom Conference Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after going undefeated last week.

He started the week by winning 6-2, 6-2 in third singles against Moravian on Thursday afternoon.  On Saturday, he teamed with sophomore Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) to remain undefeated for the season in first doubles (winning 9-7) while also winning 6-1, 6-1 in third singles.

On the season, he is 6-2 playing third singles and 7-0 at first doubles.

DEVILS STOMP SCRANTON, 9-0

MADISON, NJ – The College at Florham Devils knocked off Scranton, 9-0, in their home and conference opener on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Devils improved to 3-5 (1-0 Freedom) on the season.

The Devils had five double-winners on the day, led by sophomore Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) at first singles and first doubles.  Geiger combined with junior Jason Thalmann (Albany, NY/Albany Academy) at first doubles while Thalmann also won third singles.  Freshman Alex Bruin (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy) won at second singles and teamed with junior John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) to win at second doubles.  Zalesky also won fifth singles.  Junior Yianni Ioannides (Limassol, Cypurs/Lyceum of St. John) won fourth singles and paired with junior Chris Von Halle (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) to win third doubles.  Junior Sid Dunn (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) won sixth singles.  All of the Devils’ singles victories were straight set wins.

DEVILS LOSE SQUEAKER TO MORAVIAN, 5-4

BETHLEHEM, PA – The College at Florham Devils lost a 5-4 decision to Moravian on Thursday afternoon.  The match was decided by sixth singles, which the Greyhounds won in three sets.   With the loss, the Devils are now 2-5.

Junior Yianni Ioannides (Limassol, Cyprus/Lyceum of St. John) was the lone double winner for FDU, as he won fourth singles and combined with sophomore Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) to win second doubles.  Junior Jason Thalmann (Delmar, NY/Albany Academy) continued his winning ways as he took third singles while junior John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) won at fifth singles.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, March 24, 2007, with their conference and home opener against Scranton beginning at 1 pm.

DEVILS FALL TO CONCORDIA-WISCONSIN, 5-4

HILTON HEAD, SC – The College at Florham Devils ended the Spring Break Tennis Tournament with a 5-4 loss to Concordia-Wisconsin on Thursday afternoon.  With the loss, the Devils finished the trip with a 1-4 record and now stand at 2-4 for the season.

The bright spot once again for the Devils was junior Jason Thalmann (Delmar, NY/Albany Academy), who won at third singles and teamed with sophomore Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) to win first doubles.  Freshman Alex Bruin (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy) won at second singles and junior Yianni Ioannides (Limassol, Cyprus/Lyceum of St. John) won fourth singles in a three set thriller.

HILTON HEAD, SC – The College at Florham Devils were knocked off by Villa Julie, 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon in the Spring Break Tennis Tournament.  The Devils are now 1-3 in Hilton Head.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 2-3.

Junior Jason Thalmann (Delmar, NY/Albany Academy) was the only double winner for the Devils, winning at third singles and combining with sophomore Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) to win first doubles.  Junior Yianni Ioannides (Limassol, Cyprus/Lyceum of St. John) won fourth singles for the Devils.

HILTON HEAD, SC – The College at Florham Devils were beaten by West Liberty State, 8-1, on Tuesday afternoon in the Spring Break Tennis Tournament.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 2-2.

The only winner for the Devils was at first doubles as sophomore Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) and junior Jason Thalmann (Delmar, NY/Albany Academy) won 9-7.

DEVILS CRUISE PAST JOLIET, 8-1

HILTON HEAD, SC – The College at Florham Devils won their first match in the Spring Break Tennis Tournament, beating Joliet by a score of 8-1 on Monday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 2-1 on the season.

Sophomore Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) won first singles and teamed with junior Jason Thalmann (Delmar, NY/Albany Academy) to win first doubles.  Thalmann also won third singles.  Freshman Alex Bruin (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy) won second singles and combined with junior Yianni Ioannides (Limassol, Cyprus/Lyceum of St. John) to win second doubles.  Ioannides also took fourth singles.  Freshman Chris Von Halle (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) won sixth singles and teamed with junior Sid Dunn (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) to win third doubles.

HILTON HEAD, SC – The College at Florham Devils were knocked off by Macalester, 7-2, on Sunday afternoon in their first match of both the spring season and the Spring Break Tennis Tournament in Hilton Head, SC.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 1-1 on the season.

The two wins for FDU came in first doubles, as sophomore Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) and junior Jason Thalmann (Delmar, NY/Albany Academy) won 8-4, and in second singles, as freshman Alex Bruin (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy) won 5-7, 6-3, 11-9.

DEVILS BEAT EAST STROUDSBURG, 6-1

STROUDSBURG, PA – The College at Florham Devils got their season off on the right foot with a 6-1 win over East Stroudsburg on Thursday afternoon.  The Devils record stands at 1-0 on the season.

Double winners for the Devils included sophomore Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) at first singles and first doubles, freshman Alex Bruin (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy) at second singles and second doubles, junior Jason Thalmann (Delmar, NY/Albany Academy) at third singles and first doubles, and junior John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) at fifth singles and second doubles.  Junior Yiannis Ioannides (Limassol, Cyprus/Lyceum of St. John) won at fourth singles.

The Devils return to action on October 29th and 30th at the Blue Jay Invitational in Elizabethtown, PA.

DEVILS FINISH STRONG AT MASCAC TOURNAMENT

BETHLEHEM, PA – Senior Frank Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) took Mike Portnova of King’s to a third set before losing 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 10-8 in the finals of first singles.  This is the first time Portnova has lost a set to a Division III player.  Frank also teamed with his brother, Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) to finish in second place in first doubles.  Adam also finished fourth in second singles.  Senior Arkady Smolyansky (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) and sophomore John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) finished in second place in third doubles.  Junior Corey Lanzet (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) finished in third place in sixth singles.

FIVE DEVILS ADVANCE TO SEMIFINALS OF MASCAC INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT

BETHLEHEM, PA – Senior Frank Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) led the way as five Devils advanced to the semifinals of the MASCAC Individual Tournament on Saturday afternoon.  Frank Geiger teamed with his brother, Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston), to advance in first doubles and he also advanced in first singles.  Adam Geiger moved in second singles to go along with his first doubles victory.  Senior Arkady Smolyansky (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) combined with sophomore John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) to advance in third doubles.  Junior Corey Lanzet (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) advanced in sixth singles.

The Devils return to action tomorrow morning, April 30, in the finals of the MASCAC Individual Tournament.

DEVILS FALL TO DREW IN FREEDOM FINAL, 7-0

MADISON, NJ – The College at Florham Devils fell to Drew, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon in the Freedom Conference Finals.  With the loss the Devils dropped to 15-5 (6-2 Freedom), the 15 wins will go down as the most in Devils history.  Also this season, brothers Frank Geiger and Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) were name First Team All-Freedom Conference.  Adam Geiger was named conference Rookie of the Year, and head coach Scott Veith was named Freedom Conference Coach of the Year.

 Senior Arkday Smolyansky (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) and sophomore John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) had the Devils’ lone win of the day in third doubles.  Adam Geiger played the match of the day, losing in second singles 4-6, 7-5, 10-8.

The Devils return to action on Friday, April 28, at the MAC Individual Finals played at Lehigh University beginning at 1 pm.

GEIGER BROTHERS, VEITH HONORED BY FREEDOM CONFERENCE

ANNVILLE, PA - Senior Frank Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) and freshman Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) were named First Team All-Freedom Conference on Wednesday afternoon.  Adam Geiger was also named the conference Rookie of the Year, and Devils’ head coach Scott Veith was named Freedom Conference Coach of the Year.

Frank Geiger is 11-6 on the year playing first singles, and 14-2 in doubles.  Adam Geiger is 13-4 playing second singles, and 10-7 in doubles.  At 14-4, Veith has led the Devils to their best record since a 13-1 finish in 1999.

DEVILS ADVANCE TO FREEDOM FINAL WITH 6-1 WIN OVER KING’S

MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils defeated the King’s Monarchs, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon to advance to the Freedom Conference final on Saturday afternoon.  The Devils will play the winner of Drew/Wilkes at the higher seed at a time to be announced.

With the win, the Devils improved to 14-4 (6-1 Freedom) while the Monarchs dropped to 8-10 (4-3 Freedom).

Senior Arkady Smolyansky (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) teamed with sophomore John Zalesky (Union, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) to win third doubles, while Smolyansky won third singles and Zalesky won fifth singles.  Junior Corey Lanzet (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) combined with senior Frank Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) to win second doubles, and Lanzet also won sixth singles.  Freshman Adam Geiger (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) won second singles and junior Yiannis Ioaniddes (Limassol, Cyprus/Lyceum of St. John) took fourth singles.
