MADISON, N.J. (May 1, 2018) - Senior
Serina Grande won the clinching match as the FDU women's tennis team topped DeSales 5-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Semifinals Tuesday.
The Devils improved to 12-4 on the season, and will face either Wilkes or Misericordia in Saturday's championship match.
FDU surrendered an 8-3 setback at No. 1 doubles, but even the match at No. 3. The duo of Grande and freshman
Kira Bradley powered through for an 8-4 triumph to even the match at one.
With the match tied, the No. 2 double set proved to be the tiebreaker. Trailing 8-7 and on the verge of going down 2-1 entering singles, freshman
Brooke Dorsey and junior Allyson rallied back. Wolf and Dorsey came to force the tie-breaking set, which they came out on up 7-0.
Wolf ended up with an injury, forcing the Devils to alter their lineup. Grande, Bradley, and sophomore
Mia Capozzoli all shifted up a flight, while Dorsey entered in at No. 6 singles. Bradley cruised to an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory, while Capozzoli notched an impressive 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5
With the Devils needing just one victory over the final four flights, it was fitting that the senior Grande capped off the match. Even Dorsey held a 6-4, 5-0 lead with match point on the line, Grande ended things with a 6-1, 6-1 win, advancing the squad through to the finals.
Freshman
Nicole DelRosso was ahead 7-5, 2-0 at No. 1 singles before the match ended, while sophomore
Christine Kenny dropped the opener 6-4. The sophomore was also ahead 2-0 at the time of the match being called.
