Kevin Daly sat down with FDU-Florham women's soccer defender Mary Kate Whalen recently for a questions and answers session.

 
What made you choose FDU?

• I knew I wanted to continue playing soccer and this was the best choice in that aspect.

 
Are you happy about your decision? Why?

• Yes. The coach here is one of the best coaches I have ever had. I also love the girls that I play with. We have really come together as a team these past seeks.

 
 
Do things heat up during the Drew rivalry week?

• Yes. I think things do heat up especially during the game. I am very competitive and I know a lot of the girls on my team are the same way.

 
 
What has been one of your greatest accomplishment as an athlete?

• I was named captain this year as a Junior. Before that it was just coming here to play and being able to continue playing soccer. Being an athlete in college, while working, going to class, doing homework, and finding sleep sometime in between there is difficult.

 
What has been one of your greatest disappointments as an athlete?

• Whenever I feel I let my team down I feel disappointed.

 
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

• The most challenging thing to do in my sport is stay relaxed when the other team is very aggressive and dirty. I have to keep telling myself to relax and stay composed.

What is your mindset like right before a big game? Do you get nervous?

• I always get nervous. No matter how many times I step on the field I always feel anxious. Before games, I listen to music and kind of keep to myself.

 
What do you major in at FDU?

• Criminology and a Forensic minor.

 
Where do you see yourself in five years?

• I see myself doing something in the Criminal Justice field, either Parole officer or even possibly the FBI. I think I see myself getting married around that time as well.
