OWINGS MILLS, MD - The College at Florham Devils rolled to their first win of the season, an 8-0 thrashing of the College of Notre Dame (MD) in the Black Eyed Susan Tournament hosted by Stevenson on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 1-1.
After a close first 15:00 of action, the Devils got on the board thanks to a goal by sophomore forward
Diana Shreiner (Clementon, NJ/Highland Regional). FDU made it 2-0 just 3:28 before halftime on a goal by freshman midfielder
Lanie Andrews (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville).
The Devils came out hot in the second half and immediately put the game away when junior forward
Megan Springmeyer (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills), junior forward
Lauren Guenther (Wall, NJ/St. Rose), and freshman forward
Bethany Barrar (Somerset, MA/Somerset) all scored goals in the first 14:04 to give FDU a 5-0 lead. Sophomore midfielder
Adriana Cabrera (Highlands, NJ/Henry Hudson), sophomore forward
Corey VanOrden (Sussex, NJ/High Point) and Shreiner all scored goals later in the second stanza to give the Devils an 8-0 win.
Springmeyer finished the game with a goal and two assists while the FDU defense held Notre Dame without a shot for th entire game.
The Devils return to action on Sunday, September 5, 2010, on the second day of the tournament against Sewanee beginning at noon.
