Devils Knocked Off By Elizabethtown, 8-6

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - In a battle of one-loss conference foes, the College at Florham Devils were knocked off by Elizabethtown, 8-6, in Middle Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 8-5 (7-2 MAC) while the Blue Jays improved to 10-3 (8-1 MAC).

The Devils got off to the exact start they were looking for, scoring the first three goals of the game to take a 3-0 lead with 6:11 left in the first quarter.  Sophomore midfielder Paul Colflesh (Moorestown, NJ/Holy Cross) scored two goals and assisted on a third to freshman attack Brian Gill (Levittown, NY/East Meadow).  Elizabethtown came right back though, scoring the next three goals to tie the game at 3-3 with 10:15 to go in the second quarter.  The Devils notched the final goal of the half as sophomore midfielder Adam Koontz (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) scored to give FDU a 4-3 halftime edge.

The Blue Jays started the second stanza by scoring the first two goals to grab a 5-4 lead but Koontz found sophomore midfielder Pat O'Brien (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) to tie the game at 5-5 with 7:50 left in the third.  Elizabethtown got the first goal of the fourth quarter but FDU came right back to tie it at 6-6 with 6:46 remaining on a goal by Gill.  The Blue Jays though, scored the go-ahead goal with 2:33 to play and added an insurance goal on a man-up with 0:23 left.

Colflesh finished with two goals and one assist while Gill also had two goals.  Senior midfielder Taylor Evans (Easton, PA/Easton) went 10-of-16 on faceoffs while senior goalkeeper Alex Kajencki (Medfield, MA/Xaverian) made seven stops in goal.

The Devils return to action on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, with another crucial conference match-up at home against Eastern beginning at 7 pm.
