Devils Roll To Season Opening Win, 12-2, Over Lyndon State

FLEMINGTON, NJ - Senior catcher Marc Hubbert (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBI while junior outfielder Alex Sariyan (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) finished 3-for-6 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBI to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 12-2 over Lyndon State in their 2010 season opener played at Diamond Nation on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 1-0.

Hubbert got things started for FDU in the bottom of the first inning when he cranked a two-run home run to right center field.  Sophomore first baseman Ryan Fandel (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) followed with a RBI single to make it 3-0.  Sariyan made it 5-0 in the second inning when he also drilled a homer to right center.  In the fourth inning, senior outfielder Steve Gonzalez (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) ripped a RBI single followed by a bases loaded walk to sophomore designated hitter Matt Joiner (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) and a sacrifice fly by Fandel made it 8-0.  The Devils finished their scoring in the fifth when Sariyan drilled another two-run home run and senior outfielder Mike Zangrillo (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) drove in a two-run single to give the Devils a 12-0 lead.  The Hornets notched their only two runs in the eighth inning.

Sophomore shortstop Steve Seminerio (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) went 3-for-5 with a run scored, senior third baseman Greg Geran (Brick, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Zangrillo went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Glenn Cox (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) tossed five strong innings to pick up the win.  He allowed no runs on two hits while striking out five.

The Devils return to action on Monday, March 8, 2010, at William Paterson beginning at 3 pm.
