WINTER HAVEN, FL - Junior outfielder
Alex Sariyan (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) drilled a one-out walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the College at Florham Devils a 15-13 win over Greenville in Game Two of a doubleheader. The Devils also won Game One by a score of 11-3. It was the final pair of game for FDU on their Spring Break Trip.
GAME ONE - The Devils got on the board immediately when junior outfielder
Dan Pregno (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley) led off the game with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore shortstop
Steve Seminerio (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park). FDU made it 3-0 in the third inning on a RBI double by Seminerio and a RBI single by senior catcher
Marc Hubbert (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) before adding two more runs in the fourth thanks to solo home runs by senior third baseman
Joey Santillo (Budd Lake, NJ/Mt. Olive) and freshman outfielder
Nick Core (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester Catholic). After an unearned run in the fifth that gave the Devils a 6-0 advantage, FDU really blew the game open with five runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Pregno and Seminerio, a bases loaded hit-by-pitch by senior designated hitter
Greg Geran (Brick, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) and a two-run single by Santillo. Greenville plated three in the bottom of the seventh inning but it was too little too late.
Seminerio finished 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI while Santillo went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Core was 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored, Pregno went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and a RBI, and sophomore first baseman
Matt Joiner (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) had two hits and two runs scored.
Sophomore pitcher
Glenn Cox (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) picked up the win, tossing 6.1 innings while allowing three runs on nine hits and striking out four.
GAME TWO - Greenville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but Geran tied it for the Devils in the bottom half on a RBI double. Greenville got three in the second to take a 4-1 advantage but the Devils got one back their half thanks to a RBI single by senior outfielder
Steven Gonzalez (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck). A five run third inning gave FDU a 7-4 lead on a solo home run by Seminerio, a RBI single by sophomore first baseman
Ryan Fandel (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central), a bases load walk by senior second baseman
Chris Baldino (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) and a two-run single by Pregno. Greenville plated four in the fourth and one in the fifth while the Devils scored one run apiece in those two innings, making the game tied at 9-9. Greenville scored four in the seventh to grab a 13-9 advantage but the Devils mounted a huge rally in the bottom half to pull out the win. Geran got the inning going with a two-run double to make the score 13-11 and after Greenville walked the bases loaded, Sariyan came through with his grand slam heroics.
Geran finished 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI while Seminerio went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs and two RBI. Pregno was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI, Core finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a RBI, and Fandel was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI.
Sophomore pitcher
Matt LaTorre (Galloway, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) was the outstanding pitcher for FDU, throwing 2.2 innings of middle relief while allowing one run on four hits and striking out three. Sophomore pitcher
Chris Laudati (Kenilworth, NJ/David Brearly) picked up the win by tossing the ninth.
The Devils return to action on Sunday, March 21, 2010, with their Freedom Conference opener at Delaware Valley. It will be a doubleheader beginning at noon.
