Peter Marion - Head Coach

Peter Marion enters his fourth season as the head coach of the men's basketball program.
In 2006-07, Marion led the Devils to a 17-10 record with trips to the Freedom Conference Tournament and the ECAC Metro Region Tournament while also being named Freedom Conference Coach of the Year. The 17 wins were the most for the Devils since 1998-99 and it was also the first time FDU had been to the Conference and ECAC tournaments since 1998-99.
Before becoming the head coach, Marion spent 10 years as an assistant on the Devils staff. He coordinated FDU’s recruiting, and was in charge of scouting and game preparation.
He was a vital cog in the 1999 Eastern College Athletic Conference Metro Region Championship team that set the school record for wins (21) and tied the school record for winning percentage (.750), tying Bill Raftery’s 1967-68 team that went 18-9. He also helped the Devils to an NCAA tournament appearance the year before, as FDU went 17-9.
A 1995 graduate of Seton Hall University, Marion earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. While at Seton Hall, he served as a four-year student manager for the men’s basketball team under former head coaches P.J. Carlesimo and George Blaney. Marion’s last two years were spent as the team’s head manager.
Marion helped with pre- and post-game preparation at Seton Hall. During his tenure with the Pirates, the squad advanced to the post-season in each of his four seasons, including a trip to the “Sweet Sixteen” against Duke in 1992-93.
He worked as a manager for various USA Basketball teams including the 1999 team at the Olympic Festival in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Marion also serves as the university’s Director of Conference Operations, and was previously the Director of the Rec Center. He resides in Madison, NJ.

Pierre Schmitt - Assistant Coach

Pierre Schmitt enters his first season on the FDU coaching staff as a graduate assistant.
Schmitt played four years for the Devils, earning Second Team All-Freedom Conference and leading his team to the Freedom Conference and ECAC Metro Region Tournaments his senior season. He led the team in scoring during both his junior and senior year while also being named Freedom Conference Player of the Week after helping his squad win the Trinity/Southwestern Thanksgiving Classic and Tournament MVP at the Marymount Tournament as a senior. As a junior, he was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Ramapo Tip-Off Tournament. In high school, Schmitt was named both All-County and All-State at Park Ridge High School.
Last year, he was the Junior Varsity Coach at Park Ridge while also serving as an assistant coach at the varsity level where he helped guide the team to a BCSL-Olympic Division title.
Currently, Schmitt is pursuing a Master's Degree in Education and resides in Morristown, NJ.

Chris Hendershot - Assistant Coach

Chris Hendershot rejoins the Devils' coaching staff after a two-year hiatus.
Hendershot played two seasons for FDU where he was named First Team All-Freedom Conference and Third Team All-d3hoops.com Mid Atlantic Region as a senior. His 590 points during the 04-05 season ranks fourth All-Time in FDU history for single season points while his 1,008 career points puts him 24th on the All-Time list. He is also first All-Time in career field goal percentage (.602), single season field goal percentage (.627), single season free throws made (175) and single season free throws attempted (215) while ranking fourth in career free throw percentage (.786). His 23.6 points per game as a senior led the Freedom Conference, ranked seventh nationally and were the most by a Devil since the 1973-74 season.
Before coming to FDU, he was named Second Team All-Junior College while playing at Sussex County Community College.
Hendershot is currently a Corrections Officer for the State of New Jersey and resides in Florham Park, NJ.
