| Gary
Garvin was a member of the men's basketball team from 1988-92
and was honored as FDU-Madison's Male Athlete of the Year in
1989-90. Garvin was tabbed as the MAC Northern Division MVP in
1990-91 and MAC Northeast Section MVP in 1991-92. He was also
named to the Middle Atlantic Conference Northern Division First
Team twice and MAC Northeast Section First Team as well. Gary
was selected team MVP three times: in 1989-90, 1990-91, and 1991-92.
He is the school's third all-time leading scorer with 1,848 points
and averaged 19.5 points per game for his career to rank him
fourth in FDU-Madison annals. Gary not only was a prolific scorer
for the Jersey Devils, but could also rebound his position, ranking
sixth on the Jersey Devils career list with 939 rebounds and
averaging 9.9 boards per game for his career to put him sixth
as well. In addition, Gary is third all-time with 707 field goals
made and also third with 344 free throws made. He was an excellent
outside shooter as well, sinking the fifth most three-pointers
in FDU-Madison history with 90. Gary also put up outstanding
season numbers as he scored 574 points in 1991-92 to rank him
fifth on the Jersey Devils season list and is also seventh on
the list with his 1990-91 point total of 537. Gary pulled down
308 rebounds in 1991-92 for the sixth most in a season by a Devil
and made 106 free throws in 1990-91 to rank as the fourth highest
total. Gary led FDU-Madison to its first ever NCAA playoff berth,
averaging 18.5 points and 10.2 rebounds during the 1989-90 season.
He also poured in 35 points in the Jersey Devils NCAA appearance
vs. Johns Hopkins. Gary's love for the game did not end after
his playing days at FDU, as he continued his career as a professional
in Germany following his graduation from FDU-Madison. Garvin
is now a firefighter in Jersey City, New Jersey. |
