FDU Football: Three in a row!
Devils Beat William Paterson, 17-7



WAYNE, NJ - The FDU-Madison Devils won their third straight game today to even their record at 3-3. The Devils beat the William Paterson Pioneers 17-7. William Paterson is now 2-3 on the year.

William Paterson took a 7-0 lead on a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Mark Janis. FDU came back with a 12-play drive covering 71 yards. It ended with Aaron Manus (Hightstown, NJ) running in a one-yard touchdown with 2:14 left in the first half. Rich Dwyer's (New Providence, NJ ) extra point attempt was good to tie the game at seven.

With 11:28 left in the third quarter, Kevin Williams (Edison, NJ) blocked Mickey Hulse's punt from the William Paterson 25 yard-line. That set up Dwyer's 35-yard field goal with 9:28 left in the third.
That gave FDU a 10-7 lead. The Devils added on another touchdown seven minutes later after FDU's Jon Roman (Wayne Hills, NJ) recovered a fumble by WPU's Joseph Lenza at the Pioneer 44. FDU took over and the drive ended as quarterback Phil Revien (Huntington , NY) ran it in from the one-yard line. Dwyer made the extra point and FDU was in command with a 17-7 lead.

The Devils held the Pioneers scoreless in the fourth quarter to hold on for the win.

Dwyer punted seven times for 249 yards, averaging 35.6 and punting for a long of 46 yards. He went 1-for-1 on field goals.

J.D. Potynski (Hillsborough, NJ) led the Devils in rushing with 35 yards on eight carries. Manus carried 15 times for 18 yards. He has scored five touchdowns in the last three games. Mike Quigley (Manalapan, NJ) posted a game-high 55 yards receiving. Colin Grenon (Hackettstown, NJ) made three catches for 40 yards. Fred Peters (New Brunswick, NJ) made one catch for 23 yards, setting up Revien's touchdown.

Revien completed 12 passes on 27 attempts for 140 yards. FDU threw no interceptions.


FDU is off next week and will host Moravian on October 23 for a 1:00 game.
