MADISON, NJ - Aaron Manus (Hightstown, NJ) ran for
a one-yard touchdown with 6:01 left in the fourth as the FDU Devils
came back from a 10-6 deficit to beat the Moravian Greyhounds
for the first time ever.
Moravian had won the previous four meetings. FDU has won four
in a row and improves to 4-3 while Moravian drops to 1-6.
The Greyhounds got out to a 3-0 lead as Jim McIntyre hit a 38-yard
field goal. FDU came right back with a 23-yard Rich Dwyer
(New Providence, NJ) field goal to tie it up. After a TD was called
back due to a holding penalty, Dwyer then put a 32-yarder through
the uprights to put FDU up 6-3 going into halftime.
Moravian quarterback Rob Petrosky hit Rick Kulp with a 22-yard
touchdown pass to put Moravian ahead 10-6 with 7:45 left in the
third quarter. It stayed that way until Manus scored his TD.
The Devils held Moravian to just 107 yards of total offense on
the day, limiting the Greyhounds to 55 yards on the ground, and
52 passing. This stellar effort ties the school's all-time defensive
best, equaling the mark set against Juniata in 1995. FDU held
the ball for 35:39 to Moravian's 24:21. The Devils converted on
4-of-11 third downs while Moravian converted on 2-of-12. FDU made
four sacks on the day for a total of 24 yards.
FDU quarterback Phil Revien (Huntington, PA) completed
17 of 29 passes for 184 yards. Mike Quigley (Manalapan,
NJ) caught seven passes for 119 yards, posting a long of 33.
The Devils rushed for 121 yards on the day. Manus picked up 73
of those yards while J.D. Potynski (Hillsborough, NJ) ran
for 38 yards on the day.
Manus has scored at least one touchdown in each of the last four
games. Before his touchdown today, he had scored five TDs in the
last three games. Dwyer has now made 10 of his 12 field goal attempts
this year. He is a perfect 15-for-15 on extra points this year.
Mike Ortiz (Weehawkin, NJ) led FDU with ten tackles, including
1.5 for a loss of two yards, and 2.5 sacks for 24 yards in losses.
Paul Gundersdorf (Hackettstown, NJ) and Dave Dondero
(Port Monmouth, NJ) made an interception apiece. Jon Roman
(Wayne, NJ) , while his brother Brad had 1.5 sacks for
seven yards.
For Moravian, Petrosky completed four of his 17 passes and threw
one interception. Kulp was the leading receiver for the Greyhounds,
catching two passes for 35 yards, including his TD for a long
of 22. Kirk Harryn ran for 51 yards on the day without any negative
yardage.he posted a long of 21 yards. Doug Joseph ran back two
kickoffs for 72 yards, including a 51 yard return.
