Devils 4 Game Streak Stopped By Juniata

 

Huntington, PA - FDU's four-game winning streak was halted by the Juniata Eagles this Saturday in Huntington, PA as Juniata defeated FDU 45-18. It was Juniata's second straight win. The Eagles improved to 5-3 overall, while the Devils slipped to 4-4 on the year.
The Eagles had a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter when senior wide receiver Jeff Craft caught 16- and 10-yard touchdown passes from Montrella. Bill Reddinger extended the Eagle lead to 17-0 on a 23-yard field goal with 8:31 remaining in the second quarter after missing from 25 yards out four minutes earlier. Colin Grenon (Hackettstown, NJ) got the Devils on the board when he caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Phil Revien (Huntington, NY) with 1:41 to go in the second quarter. The point after was blocked, marking the first extra point attempt of the year that Rich Dwyer (New Providence, NJ) did not put the ball through the uprights.
Juniata scored on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Montrella to Eisenberg and had a 24-6 lead at the half.
Kelleher hauled in a 28-yard touchdown pass from Montrella with 5:05 to go in the third quarter for the only score for either team in the period, making the score 31-6 in Juniata's favor.
Andy Radomsky made a leaping 22-yard reception for a touchdown with 9:13 to go in the fourth. FDU-Madison responded with some offensive spark as quarterback Mark Pollifrone threw back to back touchdown passes to Mike Quigley (Manalapan, NJ) (31 yards) and Kevin Jurick (Clark, NJ)(22 yards). The Devils had cut the score to 38-18, but there was only 1:33 left to play.
Dwyer's on-side kick was recovered by the Devils, but with just 1:14 left, Jason Plunkett intercepted a Pollifrone pass and ran it back 67 yards for a touchdown to put the score at 45-18.
Ed Cracchiolo (Marlboro, NJ) ran for 106 yards on 11 rushing attempts. Grenon paced the Devils with six catches for 45 yards and Quigley had five receptions for 91 yards. Revien completed 20 of 44 passes for 201 yards.
Paul Gundersdorf (Hackettstown, NJ) made 13 tackles, including eight solo to lead the Devils defensively. Waleed Abduelal (Staten Island, NY) made 10 tackles on the day, including six solo. Erik Stanislawczyk (Monroe, NJ) made nine tackles while Mike Ortiz (Weehawkin, NJ) made seven tackles including two sacks for 12 yards.
The Devils have posted four-game winning streaks in 1993, 1988, 1987, and 1985, but have not been able to win a fifth in a row in a single season. FDU will travel to King's for a 1:00 pm MAC-Freedom Conference matchup this Saturday. King's is 5-3 on the year and 1-1 in the MAC-Freedom after beating Albright 37-33 last week.
