FDU football Takes Delaware Valley's Homecoming, 38-19:
Devils Win second game in a Row



Doylestown, PA - The FDU-Madison Devils won a Homecoming game for the second week in a row, but this week it was Delaware Valley's. FDU handled the Aggies 38-19 to win their second straight game. FDU improves to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the MAC-Freedom Conference and Delaware Valley falls to 1-3, 0-1 in the MAC-Freedom.

The Devils put the game out of the Aggies' reach early in the third quarter, as Aaron Manus (Hightstown, NJ) ran for an eight-yard touchdown as FDU completed a 25-yard four-play drive. The touchdown was Manus' second of the game and made the score 31-6.

The Devils got off on the right foot early, as they picked up Joe Quintanilla's onside kick on the 50-yard line to open the game. FDU marched downfield to score on a five-play drive, covering 50 yards. Colin Grenon (Hackettstown, NJ) scored the 22-yard touchdown on a pass from Phil Revien (Huntington, NY) for the Devils and Rich Dwyer (New Providence, NJ) hit the extra point to put FDU up 7-0 just 1:32 into the game.

The Devils struck again with 19 seconds left in the first period as Dwyer put a 31-yard field goal through the uprights. Ken Freeman (Carteret, NJ) intercepted Matt Bergman's pass at the Delaware Valley 32 and returned it to the 16-yard line to set up the score.

Less than four minutes into the second quarter, the Aggies had third down and four yards to go on their own 27-yard line. Matt Bergman dropped back to pass, but Erik Stanislawczyk (Monroe, NJ) sacked him for a 12-yard loss and caused a fumble. Anthony Gagliardo (East Stroudsburg, PA) recovered the fumble at the Delaware Valley 15 and ran it in for the touchdown to give FDU a commanding 17-0 lead.

With 4:42 left to play in the first half, Del Val got onto the board as Al Glackin ran in a nine-yard touchdown.

But FDU came back with an 11-play drive and capped it off with a one-yard rushing touchdown by Aaron Manus to make the score 24-6 in FDU's favor with just 0:30 left on the clock in the first half.

After Manus' second touchdown, which made the score 31-6, Sanford Cosenzo (Livingston, NJ) and Mike Ortiz (Weehawkin,NJ) sacked Matt Bergman for 15 yards, ending another Delaware Valley Drive.

With just over three minutes left in the fourth quarter, on fourth down and six to go, Delaware Valley was on their own 45-yard line, and had a bad snap on their punt. Waleed Abduelal (Staten Island, NY) tackled John Rawluk for a loss of 23 yards. FDU took over, and Dominick Miller (Wildwood, NJ) ran in a 22-yard touchdown on the first play to put the Devils up 38-13.

On the day, the Aggies made only one of three point-after attempts.

Manus led the rushing charge for FDU, picking up 54 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Miller gained 28 yards on three carries while scoring one TD.

Quarterbacks Revien and Mark Polifrone (Manalapan, NJ) combined for 263 yards on 19 of 36 passing. Revien was 13 of 27 on the day with one interception for 159 yards.

Abduelal picked off two Del Val passes while Freeman made one interception for 16 yards. Greg Brandis (Lacey, NJ) returned five punts for a total of 25 yards, counting a long of 23. The Devils had five total sacks on the day: Gagliardo had two, Stanislawczyk had one and half, while Cosenzo, Mike Ortiz (Weehawkin, NJ) and Brad Roman (Wayne, NJ) each had one half sack. FDU made 12 tackles for loss, totaling 108 yards. Overall, the Devils held the Aggies to a net of -3 yards rushing.

Stanislawczyk led the squad in tackles with ten. Ortiz finished up with nine tackles, including his team leading 4.5 sacks.

Dwyer kicked perfectly on the day, hitting a field goal of 31 yards and making all five PAT's. He also punted six times for 156 yards. On the season, Dwyer is 12-for-12 on PAT's and seven-for-nine of field goals.

FDU gained an average of 4.4 yards per play today while holding Del Val to just 2.9. FDU held onto the ball for 31:53 while Del Val's time of possession was 28:07. The Devils converted on six of 16 third downs while the Aggies converted only three of 15.
