Football's strength and conditioning program got off to a great start late in November. Under the instruction of the staff, the freshmen and transfers underwent a four week "technique training" period where they did nothing except learn the proper form of olympic weightlifting. Three days a week, they met and practiced their technique using relatively light weights. The veterans of the program had this period off to rest and recuperate from the long season.
When winter recess ended in late January, the team began its quest to be champions. Working four days a week, (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) the team uses assigned training times based upon their class schedules. They are following a twelve week program, with year end testing - and goal setting - to begin during the last week of April. We are also hoping to have an FDU "strongman" competition this spring - watch this site for details!
Here is a sample of a workout from this phase:
These workouts provide a good deal of resistance for the guys, and they're in and out in about 1 hour!
