UPDATE # 30 - Fall 2007Football For the first time in years, we had a small core group train with the staff over the summer. This group did a tremendous job lifting and running, and shattered most position records and index totals. See the "records" page at left for details...As for conditioning, we followed a 15 week template that broke the summer up into 2 blocks: 1. - 3x/week, with different training sessions consisting of either repeated short sprints, various 300 yard shuttles, and 100 yd. tempo runs. We manipulated both the recovery times and volume for 7 weeks. 2. - 3x/week, with a high metabolic volume day, a low metabolic volume day, and a position skills/recovery day. We progressed for 8 weeks, until we were able to hit 86 plays on our high volume day. The recovery times, and quarters mimic those of a football game. The guys were in phenominal football condition, and pre-season camp was relatively easy for them (regarding their fitness levels)! The team is now ready to begin a 2x/week in-season program, hoping to stay within 87% of their "max" strength throughout. Almost all people will lose strength during a season; it's limiting that amount which is critical! Congratulations go to Tom Capra, Joe DeSalle, and Jon Sacco, who share this year's Football Strength & Conditioning Athlete of the Year honors! Women's Soccer Soccer should be ready for another great year - we welcome all the new players, and look forward to building a tradition a excellence in women's soccer. Baseball will be training 2x/week during the fall season. We wil have them in after Sept. 10th, learning the basics of a college strength&conditioning program... Men’s basketball will begin Sept. 10th as well. We'll be going 5x/week until practice starts in mid-October. They'll be lifting with the strength staff 3x/week, and running 2x/week for 3 weeks, and then switch to a 3x/week running plan. We were able to order some exciting new equipment...more details to come! There’s a lot more going on, and not a lot of room to type. If you want to know more, please contact us at klika@fdu.edu |
