UPDATE # 12 - Fall 2001 Football The summer went by really fast, and we already more than midway through the fall semester. Football's testing numbers were better than ever. On average, this is our strongest class ever! We will post testing results when the season comes to an end. Congratulations to Rich Armitt, Athlete of the Year! Rich was named strength and conditioning athlete of the year for his hard work and determination in the 2001 season and off season. Despite his staure, Rich is easily one of the most powerful athletes in the conference. Rich's training numbers approached a 140 kg. clean & jerk, a 180 kg. front squat, and a 200+ kg. back squat. Great job Rich! Unfortunately, Rich was invlolved in a freak accident early in football camp, and has to miss the 2001 season. We look forward to Rich's continued progress and recovery this off season. Currently, the team is training on Mondays and Thursdays. We are averaging about 800 lifts a month during this phase of training. Basketball The Devils hoops team has been training hard for their upcoming season. After a year of basic strength training, the team has progressed to completing the olympic lifts. Watch out for their progress in the upcoming year! The basketball team is also training on Mondays and Thurdays during the fall semester. Softball Many athletes on the softball team are also making great strides with their training. Several of the upperclassmen have moved up to the olympic lifts, while we continue to instruct the underclassmen in basic strength training techniques. This squad is also training on Mondays and Thursdays in the fall semester. OTHER NEWS
