MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham men's soccer team won a thriller Monday night at home as a second half goal from
Santiago Ramirez was enough to give the Devils the 1-0 win over CCNY.
DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS
- Ramirez had four shots with two on goal including his game winner
- Jason Balbuena tallied the assist on Ramirez's goal.
- Karan Chauhan also finished with four shots with two on frame.
- Freshman goalkeeper Donovan Ford had a clean sheet with six saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half saw a barrage of shots from the Devils offense as FDU had three of their eight shots on frame but could not get past the CCNY keeper.
- Balbuena had a prime opportunity in the 18' as the senior headed one on target, but a Beavers defender was right there for the team save and kept the Devils off the board.
- After Balbuena's near goal, the Devils had three more opportunities, but none found the back of the net and the match went into the break in a scoreless tie.
- In the middle of second half, the Devils offense connected on shot after shot with nothing to show until Balbuena sent a loose ball to a wide-open Ramirez who promptly netted the shot for the difference in the match.
- The Beavers had multiple opportunities late, but Ford acted like a wall and stopped their final two shots on goal with one in the 86' and one in the 90', with five seconds left on the clock.
GAME NOTES
- This was FDU's second straight game with 20 or more shots and exactly eight corners taken.
- Monday's game was Ford's first career clean sheet.
- The Devils have scored in all four games played this season thus far, outscoring opponents 7-5.
